Post subject: Multicam Review
|
|
|
In June of 2006 I purchased a pair of Multicam BDUs from a tactical store called SKD tactical for 155.00 shipped, which included the Pants and Field Shirt and I bought a Boonie Hat from another site to complete my look.
I was a bit skeptical at first and to pay 155.00 for a pair of BDUs is not cheap and in fact I probably wouldn’t have if my brother did not convince me to do so. I took a chance and I would have to say it was all well worth it.
What is Multicam?
Multicam is a special material pattern that a company called Crye Precision designed as a multi-environment camouflage. It is designed to work for woodland, desert & urban conditions with the same pattern design. It works by changing its reflective light in it’s surroundings and adapts itself to that color. It is also designed to hide the wearer with both visual and near infrared (night vision) spectrums.
Field Testing
Well I did some testing of my own. I took my Multicam Camo and had my cousin take pictures of me in different places around our field. Now I was only working in a woodland type environment, although that is primarily where I wanted to test the material. The reason being is that I have seen many pictures of the stuff working superbly in desert and other conditions so I really wanted to see how it would work in a woodland environment instead.
After looking at the pictures we took there is only one word to describe this stuff, simply, AMAZING! It worked better than any camouflage I have seen so far. So I wore the stuff during a game and I was able to walk, well crouch and crawl, passed a player 6 feet away from me. I was even able to get behind that player without him even knowing I was there. Since then I have had numerous occasions of this same manner. This material really does speak for itself; you really do have to see it in person to totally believe it.
My brother, the one who convinced me to buy it, lives out in Nevada and plays with a team out there and this is all that they wear is Multicam. He contested that he too had the same experience in his desert like conditions.
This material really Works! Now there aren’t really any downsides to this material other than it is a bit expensive for the average budget. I spent almost my entire airsoft budget to buy a pair but they were well worth it. Also I’d like to note that people could still hear you with this stuff on and that could give your position away as well. Also for sniping purposes I think that the material works well if you want a high mobility, but it is in no way going to be as good as a well designed ghillie suit will. I love using the stuff for counter sniping cause it gives you the ability to move fast but also give a good amount of camouflage cover.
Now you will have to make up your decision on your own but I believe that if you take one look the stuff you will be saving your next airsoft budget for Multicam.
Here are some of the pictures that I took during my testing.
What appears to be mostly nothing more than jungle, there is actually a person each of these pictures
Where to Buy?
You can buy the material from many different places Crye sell their own version of the BDUs and they seem to be the best built but I can’t say that for sure cause I have only seen pictures of them. The Crye version is also the most expensive you can buy. There are other sites that sell them as well but be careful of some places and especially Ebay, cause you may be buying an imitation not the real thing. Which will not work at all. Most likely if it is too cheap then it is too good to be true. I have yet to see a real pair of Multicam BDU’s go for less than 150.00 dollars especially a new pair. You can also buy yards of the Multicam material and make your own gear and equipment. It sells between 8 and 12 dollars a yard depending on the weight and type of material you buy.
Here are a few Links that you can follow to either buy or get more information on the Multicam Material.

A more effective way of showing how it works visually, would be to take pictures of you standing in front of the grass/ bushes instead of inside of it. That would have been more proving for the multicam, because if i am wearing woodland and I sit in a bush like that, I would not be found Either.
I was amazed at the picture of you laying next to the tree. that was good camo. I never noticed the blending properties. Very interesting. |

Some of them I am standing in front of it.
First Row #1
Second Row #2, #4
All 4 of Third Row
Also remember that the camo still only disrupts your eye visually if you know it's there or know what to look for then you will bne able to see it. In otherwords if they are lookingdirectly at you and you move then they'll see you. _________________ Great Oden's Raven!

Wow. That is truly amazing! I'm going to have to get myself MultiCam after viewing those photos of yourself and some on other sites. I found the photo of you on the tree trunk incredible. |
