Post subject: I need help with gear
|
|
|
| Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I am brand new to airsoft and I need to know where a good place to buy stuff is either in Kona or online. I need the safety gear, a good beginner gun (and perhaps permission to use it on the field), and bb's. I have nothing and I want to get into it ASAP (my birthday is next week, hoping to get my first gun then). |

I suggest looking for a new gun on poweredgeusa.com, uncompnay.com, redwolfairsoft.com, or airsoftextreme.com, www.military-ops-airsoft.org. I bought a used gun and it worked fine for like 8 months then it broke, so now its almost finished. It's too much of a hassle to repair it and it costs alot too.
A good gun to start out with with low maintenance is the Tokyo Marui AK-47, which typically goes around for $230-$250, depends on which site you buy it at. The Tokyo Marui G36c is also a good choice too, with a smaller barrel but able to be collapsible, and a top rail to mount any scope on, is a pretty good choice too. The TM SIG 552 works pretty nicely, almost like the G36 with the collapsible stock but no top rail and it is very small, is another good choice. Most TM(Tokyo Marui) guns are generally good, they do have maybe a few that aren't the best, same with Classic Army.
Airsoftextreme.com is a good website to go to because some of the guns, they give you a deep analysis of one particular gun and what they rate it as. _________________ Airsoft is like cars. Horsepower is like FPS. 285 just isn't enough. |

| well, I was looking at the ECHO 1 G36C. Its cheaper and the reviews are great, looks like it has more FPS (dont know if thats a good thing or a bad for a beginner). But thanks for helping me, now I just need to know what kind of goggles/mask to get, then I am pretty much ready to go. |

I have heard many great things about the ECHO 1 guns, they are very good but I hear they do break within possibly a year, unsure. Hispeed/Chad can tell u about them, he played with some guys who had ECHO 1 guns in the mainland. Goggles, the ones that I have are just regular paintball goggles from walmart, they work fine, but if you want to go high you can check out ESS goggles, Bolle goggles are good too, but as long as they say ASNI standard goggles then they should work. Ebay's got alot of those. _________________ Airsoft is like cars. Horsepower is like FPS. 285 just isn't enough. |

Echo 1's are great guns once upgraded. Most of the guys I know that had them they failed within a couple of months. After upgraded they ran well and as far as I know are still running. At the bare min you need to reshim it. The problem with the echo 1 as well is that the QC is lacking and so there are more lemons.
I am looking at a echo 1 but I am going to replace everything if I get it. Moter, gears, piston, piston head, hop unit.
Echo1's are great to toy with and mess around with but stock they are not good as a first gun.
I always had a motto with the echo1's " Echo1 for fun, but Marui when you need it to run"...
They are almost twice as much but will run... I have a Marui SG1 that is about 4 years old that is used for a rental. It has been dropped, thrown, banged around and has about a couple hundred thousand rounds through it and does not miss a beat. Marui actually says that if left stock one of their guns will get at least 500,000 rounds through it for sure. Most will get many more.
Marui might be twice as much but worth every penny.
As for gear, it all depends on what you are looking for. For goggles I would go with something from ESS. ESS goggles are made to withstand a shot from a .22 at 10 feet and a shotgun blast at 5 feet. They are the best you can get for airsoft. On Ebay they can be found for good prices. The NVG's are the best but land ops are good too.
As for tac gear again depends on what you want. I am starting to build my own tactical gear so it can be tailored to me plus I want multicam since most multicam gear is hard to get.
Your best store for a gun would be www.poweredgeusa.com cause they are in Oahu or I order most if not all of my guns through http://stores.ebay.com/eHobby-Asia-Airsoft-Supplier Prices are upfront on what you pay and I get most items from them between 5 to 7 days on avarage from Hong Kong where they are.
Hope that helps.
Stay with Marui! _________________ Plastic killing is my business and business is GOOOOOD! |

thank you sooo much...I was just about to make my dad buy me the Echo 1...now I think I'm stuck on the G36C, so I am going to get the TM version and a new mag cause 50 rounds isn't enough.
I am also thinking of getting a Marui Smith&Wesson PC356 Springer pistol as a sidearm, but I don't know if I need one.
I actually have no idea what I should have in the way of tactical gear. I don't know if I should have boots, special vest, belts, or anything. I have never played or seen anybody play before. |

some people like to have a vest, it does come in handy sometimes but its not neccessary. only if you have a lot of mags or gear do you really need a vest. the nice thing about g36 mags is that they clamp together so you dont have to put them in your pockets.you should probably start out small, just a belt and pouch until you get more mags and other stuff. you dont really need boots, just good solid shoes with ankle support. personally, i like www.airsoftgi.com, but poweredge is good too. _________________ "some people think they can outsmart me.........maybe....maybe......but i have yet met one that can outsmart bullet."

Forgot to mention airsoftgi.com Good site as well.
Good choice with the Marui g36... I think all you need is a hicap mag to go with it and you are good to go. I would not spend any money on anything that you don't need. Get it as you go... The more you play the more you say I need this and that. So hold out on the vest, pistol and other things till you find the need for it. Also you can start to tailor you load to you, and what type of pistol you want. Where you want to carry it and what not.
I have a Marui mk23 which is big as hell but with the TN barrel I have in it, it is just as accurate as my G36C was stock. I however have a big frame so it does not bother me. You want to consider size of the pistol you want to consider and how many rounds the mag holds. If you don't want to deal with gas guns then the CYMA G18C electirc pistols are the way to go. I have heard noting but good things about them, they are accurate and cheap at about $60 plus they are battery so no gas to deal with. Again though pistols are much later and not needed right away. I Carry 7 mk23 mags (6 on my vest and 1 in the gun) and carry 5 g36 mags (1 in the gun 4 on the vest) which the one in the gun first is the 50 round and the other 4 on the vest are midcaps with 130 rounds each. I can carry 4 mag pouches on my chest and like having one in each pouch and not double stacking cause they don't stick out too much on my chest. I then run the pistol mags on my belt all on the left side since I am right handed it makes reloading my pistol more easy. I then have 2 quick loaders to reload my mags when needed. So that comes out to 175 rounds for the pistol, 570 for the G36, and 240 rounds in the speed loaders for a total of 985 rounds which is more than I need for a game.
Again get gear as you need it and not because everyone else has it. Tailor it to yourself as well. As you play make mental notes of stuff. Like if that mag was here it would have been more easy to reload, or I don't like a vest cause it puts everything on the front of me making it harder to crawl without damaging or losing my gear, or I like midcaps cause the hicaps rattle... so on and so on...
You are on the right track. Start with the Marui G36C and a hicap. I would also suggest getting a battery from http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/main.asp?sid=847877& You can build a custom one. I built a custom 9.6V 1500MAH for my G36 and it is only slightly bigger than the stock crappy 600mah battery and will fit pretty well in there and the 1500mah will give you enough juice for all day. Its also good to get NIMH cells instead of Nicad cells cause the NIMH you can top the charge off where ever and don't have to drain the battery first to charge so you can just charge it fresh anytime for a game.
Goggles are a must too! Also some sort of face protection like a ski mask or shegmah. Again I saw some ESS NVG goggles on ebay with buy it now of about $35 which is good.
Hope that all helps and see you on the feild some time! _________________ Plastic killing is my business and business is GOOOOOD! |
